Marine Construction
Do you live on a waterfront property? If you answered yes, do you have anything built along the shoreline to help protect your property? If you do not, this is your sign to get started on looking into options. These structures are what will keep your property safe from any threatening water damage. These structures can include docks, retainer walls, seawalls, and boathouses.
Types of Marine Construction
Docks
Docks are the most common type of marine construction there is. They are used to tie up boats on waterfront properties. There are a variety of different types of docks that you might not know about. These include floating docks, piling docks, and pipe docks. They all serve a similar purpose but have small differences depending on your situation.
A floating dock is anchored to the floor by ropes or chains tied to cement laid in the lake’s floor. The lines have a few feet of slack so the dock can rise or fall with the height of the ocean. Floating docks can be nice in turbulent lakes because there’s less of a chance their foundations will be destroyed.
Piling docks are more aesthetic docks. They have the classic boardwalk feel, with large wooden pillars drilled or forced directly into the lake floor.
Pipe docks are built like piling docks, but made from aluminum and can be removed from the pipes. The downside to pipe docks is that they have to be removed each winter to prevent the pipes from freezing and becoming damaged.

Retainer Walls
The primary function for retaining walls are to keep the land from moving and sliding. They keep the land from eroding into the water. These walls are rigid and support soil mass on both sides. The ground will slowly slide into the water if there is no barrier. These walls are made from sheet metal, concrete, bricks, and other sturdy materials.

Breaker Walls/Seawalls
Breaker walls also known as seawalls serve the purpose of preventing water from storms and flooding to overflow onto your property. This time of marine construction is made from strong material that will ensure no entry of water onto your land and withstanding harsh waves.
Seawalls also work the opposite way too! They protect your land from sliding out into the sea. This can happen when the ground below your land begins to erode.
Boathouses
Boathouses are used to store boats and prevent them from being damaged by the water. Some of these boathouses have levels so that the boat can be completely lifted up off the water for long term storage. They are built on top of decks providing even more protection. They are also used for storing safety gear and equipment, keeping it protected from any harsh waves or storms that may arise.
